EORICheck

Validation

Validate an EORI number against EU TAXUD

EORI validation is a practical control for cross-border operators. It reduces preventable customs errors caused by typos, stale records or missing country prefixes.

Search intent

Understand how to validate an EORI number and how to interpret a valid, invalid or error response.

Run a live check

Data sourced live from the European Commission EORI validation service (TAXUD). EORICheck is an independent tool and does not issue official certifications.

Source

EU Commission TAXUD validation service.

Use case

Customs, onboarding and shipment QA.

Coverage

EU/EEA, XI and supported legacy prefixes.

Limit

Independent tool, not official certification.

Basic validation flow

Start with the full number exactly as received, remove spaces or hyphens, then validate the cleaned value. The first two characters should be a supported country prefix.

  • Use the full EORI, not only a VAT or company number fragment.
  • Confirm the country prefix matches the operator location or customs registration.
  • Retry later if the official service is temporarily unavailable.

How to read the response

Valid means the number is registered in the lookup source. Not valid or not found means you should confirm the number with the counterparty before filing or releasing a shipment.

Escalation rule

If a high-value shipment, regulated product or deadline depends on the result, use the lookup as a first pass and confirm through official customs channels.

FAQ

Why can a real company return not valid?+

The number may be mistyped, formatted with the wrong prefix, inactive in the source, or not an EORI even if the company exists.

Does EORICheck issue certificates?+

No. EORICheck is an independent validation interface and does not issue official customs certificates.
